WP Tag Manager Event Plugin WordPress
In this guide we will analyze “WP Tag Manager Event”, a plugin developed by our team of WP LOVERS that allows you to monitor certain events that we can go to create thanks to the plugin for four different selectors:
- ID
- Class
- Text
- Scroll
Thanks to this plugin it will be possible to determine how a user moves on his website based on the tags that are created.
For example: we want to monitor how many times a user clicks on a specific button / section of the site.
Thanks to WP Tag Manager Event it is possible to decide how you want to monitor this specific action, if monitoring the ID, Class or Text specifically and with each click, the plugin will create an event on Google Analytics for the characteristics choices.
In this way you will be able to understand how a user behaves on a website and which are the sections that are more visited than others. Let’s see specifically how to set up the plugin.
Selector n°1: ID
With this selector we go to monitor a specific action based on the ID. Just decide what you want to monitor, right click and click inspect, take the ID of the element we want to monitor and insert it into the plugin.
Example: I want to monitor the “About Us” button on the home page of my site. We right click on the element, inspect and take the ID:
Once the ID is obtained, we insert it on the plugin in the “Element” section:
The rest of the compilation is strictly personal and depends on how you want to set up the event on Analytics. You are free to determine Category, Action and Label as you prefer.
Now the event is set correctly and if you click on the “About Us” button an event will automatically be created on Google Analytics:
Selector n°2: Class
With this selector we go to monitor a certain action based on the Class. Just decide what you want to monitor, right click and click inspect, take the class of the element we want to monitor and insert it into the plugin.
Example: I want to monitor the “Request Quote” button on the home page of my site. We right click on the element, inspect and take the Class:
Once we have obtained the Class we are going to insert it on the plugin in the “Element” section:
Now the event is set correctly and if you click on the “Request Quote” button an event will automatically be created on Google Analytics:
Selector n°3: Text
With this selector we go to monitor a specific action based on the text of the action. Just decide what you want to monitor and write the name of the element in the plugin.
Example: I want to monitor the “Contacts” button on the home page of my site. Let’s simply select “text” and in the “Element” field enter the text of that field, then “Contacts”:
Now the event is set correctly and if you click on the “Contacts” button an event will automatically be created on Google Analytics:
Selector n°4: Scroll
Thanks to this last selector, we can monitor the extent to which a user on our site scans the page. This selector helps us to understand the effectiveness of our landing page and if the user who lands us arrives to the end and consequently looks at the whole structure of the page or if it stops after a while.
This selector has 5 sub-elements with which it is defined:
- 0% scrolling
- 25% scrolling
- 50% scrolling
- 75% scrolling
- 100% scrolling
If you want to monitor the scrolling on your landing page, just enter the URL of the page in the “element” section of the plugin and select “Scroll” as the selector.
Once the event has been set up correctly, when someone is going to scroll on the selected landing page, an event will automatically be created on Google Analytics that informs us about the percentage of the page displayed:
